LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Hollywood actors Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen and Renee Zellweger have signed to star in the new big-screen western, "Appaloosa," Variety.com reported Tuesday.

Harris is also set to direct the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Robert Knott, based on Robert B. Parker's novel of the same name.

Harris and Knott will also produce the New Line film, which is scheduled to start shooting in New Mexico Oct. 1 and finish before a possible actors strike next summer, the trade paper said.

The film marks a reunion for Harris and Mortensen, who co-starred in New Line's 2005 drama, "A History of Violence."

It will also be Harris' sophomore directorial effort after he directed himself in the 2000 film, "Pollock."
