NEW YORK, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. actress, comedian and radio personality Whoopi Goldberg says she will take a more relaxed approach to hosting than her predecessors did on “The View.”

Goldberg is slated to take over as moderator of the ABC day-time talk show next month, replacing controversial comedian Rosie O’Donnell.

Before O’Donnell was on the panel, former “View” member Star Jones made headlines for her own strong personality and opinions.

"I disagree with a lot of stuff a lot of people say, but there is a dialogue to have with people that I was taught by my mom -- how to be respectful and listen," People.com quoted Goldberg as saying on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Monday.

Asked if she planned to engage in celebrity feuds like O'Donnell did, Goldberg said: "No, I would have to be Rosie to do that. I am Whoopi, I have no reason to do that; that is not my style."

As for why she was chosen for the coveted position, Goldberg said: "I'm black, I don't know. I've done the show a lot of times and I probably looked like I could use the gig."
