LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Officials in the Los Angeles City Attorney's office are split regarding whether to prosecute pop singer Brandy in a fatal car crash, TMZ.com reported Monday.
The performer rear-ended a car with her Range Rover last December and set off a multi-vehicle smash-up that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old woman.
A law-enforcement source told TMZ.com there was a "conflict" in the city attorney's office over whether Brandy should be prosecuted at all.
The charge she could face is misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Prosecutors reportedly won't make a decision until after they have reviewed technical data from a London-based firm that measured the speed of Brandy's vehicle on impact and will help them determine if the singer tried to brake before hitting the other car.
The source said, "At this point, it could go either way."
