'GMA's' Roberts has cancer surgery

NEW YORK, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Robin Roberts, co-host of the U.S. television program "Good Morning America," underwent a successful breast cancer operation this week, a spokeswoman said.

ABC spokeswoman Bridgette Maney said that Roberts' surgery appeared to be successful and the 46-year-old TV host was now recuperating at home, but warned that related test results were not yet in, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

"Robin's surgery was very successful today," Maney said Friday. "She has already left the hospital and is home resting."

"The tests following her surgery take some time to process, so when we have more information we will update you," she added. "Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Robin at this time."

The operation comes just days after Roberts publicly announced on Tuesday's broadcast that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
