NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon is an Avon Lady, becoming the company's first Global Ambassador, Avon Products announced at its New York headquarters.
In the newly established role, Witherspoon will be the honorary chairwoman of the Avon Foundation, which focuses on breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief initiatives, the company said Wednesday in a news release.
Witherspoon will serve as the spokeswoman for Avon's beauty brands as well as be involved in product development and be featured in Avon advertising, Web sites and marketing collateral.
"We are thrilled to welcome Reese as our global ambassador and believe she will give a strong voice to the company's commitment to empowering women," said Andrea Jung, chairwoman and chief executive officer of Avon Products Inc.
"I am truly impressed by how Avon has been able to effect real change in the communities in which it does business and by how committed the company is to providing economic and personal fulfillment to women all over the world," said Witherspoon, who earned her Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "Walk The Line."
