LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Los Angeles socialite Paris Hilton went from jailbird to songbird last week, when she landed a leading role in "Repo! The Genetic Opera," a horror musical.
Hilton told Entertainment Weekly "Repo!" is a cross between "The Rock Horror Picture Show" and "Moulin Rogue," and she will sing, dance and wear prosthetics for her role.
The film is co-financed by "Saw" producers Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who oversaw the first three "Saw" movies and the upcoming fourth installment.
After being given a script and CD of the song she had to perform in the audition, "I worked with my voice coach every day and my choreographer and then went in and did it," Hilton told Entertainment Weekly. "(They) said I blew everyone else out of the water, so it was really exciting."
Hilton said the project will be a scary horror film that's a musical "with really cool characters and a very cool storyline."
Production is scheduled to begin in September.
In June, Hilton served 23 days in jail for violating terms of her probation.
