LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown filed a paternity action in Los Angeles against Eddie Murphy, seeking to establish the actor as legal father of Brown's daughter.
Besides establishing Murphy as the legal father of 4-month-old Angel Iris Murphy Brown, the suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Wednesday also asks that Brown gain sole custody of the child and "reasonable" support, E! News reported.
"I am here today for one reason and one reason only; her name is Angel," Brown said at a news conference. "Angel is my baby and Eddie's. She will always know that she was planned and wanted by both of us."
Brown filed her claim a week after the "Deamgirls" star proposed to movie producer Tracey Edmonds.
Brown and Murphy dated last fall and broke up after she became pregnant. The baby was born in April and Brown listed the actor as the father on the birth certificate.
A DNA test in June "established (Murphy's) paternity, but paternity has not been legally acknowledged," said Brown's attorney, Gloria Allred.
