Drowning Pool hopes for third-time charm

DALLAS, July 24 (UPI) -- Dallas hard rockers Drowning Pool feel like they've made their "third first album,"bassist Steve Benton says.

Each of the albums has featured a different lead singer. Original frontman Dave Williams died from a heart disorder during the 2002 OZZFest tour. His replacement, Jason "Gong" Jones, lasted just one album. But with Ryan McCombs on the new "Full Circle," Benton says Drowning Pool got it right.

"When Jason came in the band," Benton, 33, remembers, "we made a record without any touring, without seeing if that live energy was gonna jibe or not. With Ryan, we spent a lot of time on the road touring before we even stepped foot into the studio.

"And once Ryan joined the band, it was kind of like a brotherhood again, like we had when Davey was in the band. It was something we were very much missing on the second record."

Drowning Pool is currently touring North America to promote "Full Circle." The first single, "Soldiers," is a tribute to U.S. troops who turned the band's very first hit, "Bodies," into a training and combat anthem.
