
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., July 19 (UPI) -- "American Idol" director Bruce Gowers was tapped to direct the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards presentation Sept. 16 in Los Angeles.
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Gowers' appointment to direct the special on Fox.
"Bruce is very talented and experienced at directing live events and he always brings fresh ideas to the table," Ken Ehrlich, the show's executive producer, said in a news release.
Gowers, himself a two-time Emmy winner, has directed the American Music Awards, the MTV Movie Awards, Billboard Music Awards, the People's Choice Awards and the Kid's Choice Awards.
Besides "Idol," Gowers' regular series directing jobs include "Celebrity Duets" and "So You Think You Can Dance." Among the music videos he directed are Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Rod Stewart's "Tonight's the Night."
