Brancato hauls trash in jail

NEW YORK, July 17 (UPI) -- Former "Sopranos" star Lillo Brancato's jail work detail keeps him out of trouble and in the sun as he awaits trial in the death of a New York police officer.

The tanned Brancato hauls trash, which "requires him to be outside all day," his lawyer, Joe Tacopina, told the New York Post. It also helps keep the actor's nose clean.

Brancato and Steven Armento are accused in the December 2005 shooting death of off-duty police officer Daniel Enchautegui. Brancato and Armento allegedly were breaking into an apartment when Enchautegui, who lived next door, interrupted them.

The police officer was fatally wounded in an exchange of gunfire.

On Monday, Brancato attended a pretrial hearing in Bronx Supreme Court, where several of family members were in attendance.

"He keeps to himself," Brancato's mother, Domenica Brancato, told The Post.
