NEW YORK, July 13 (UPI) -- "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino's work on New York's Broadway must be fantastic -- she just extended her run in "The Color Purple."

The 23-year-old Barrino debuted in April as Celie, the browbeaten heroine of Alice Walker's book of the same name. Her performance earned glowing reviews and box office receipts of $10 million to date, the New York Post reported Friday.

Her appearance as Celie will run through Jan. 6.
