BEIJING, July 12 (UPI) -- The Tribeca Film Festival moved beyond its New York venue, opening itself up to a broader international audience in Beijing's 798 art district.
The focus of this week's Tribeca 798 Film Festival Beijing was Benson Lee's "Planet B-Boy," a documentary about the resurgence of break-dancing. The film premiered in May at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, and was developed through the Tribeca All-Access program, Variety reported Thursday.
Tuesday's Tribeca 798 Film Festival Beijing was developed by Tribeca Enterprises, William Morris Agency and China Interactive Media Group from a common interest of bringing a film event to Beijing that welcomes local audiences and celebrates the Chinese filmmaking community, Tribeca officials said.
"We're not just here to show a film but to create an event," said Patty Newburger, executive vice president of Tribeca Enterprises. "This event was about creating a community experience."
While this year's event focused on one movie, Tribeca officials said they were cautiously optimistic about an expanded festival next year.
