Richie DUI hearing delayed until August

LOS ANGELES, July 11 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles court commissioner Wednesday granted "Simple Life" star Nicole Richie's request for a delay in her DUI case, postponing a hearing until August.

Richie's attorney asked for a continuance of the case because their expert witness, Dr. Terence Sean McGee, was unavailable to testify until next month, Access Hollywood reported. The request was made Tuesday and both sides were ordered back to court Wednesday to argue the motion.

After hearing arguments the commissioner continued the case until Aug. 16.

Richie pleaded not guilty in February to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence. The 25-year-old star could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. She has a previous DUI conviction.
