Third accusation against Lavigne emerges

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 10 (UPI) -- Canadian singer Avril Lavigne, less than a week after an American band sued her, once again has been accused of ripping off a song's lyrics.

Bloggers are comparing the opening of "I Don't Have to Try" from Lavigne's "The Best Damn Thing" to a section of "I'm The Kinda" by Canadian artist Peaches, Canada.com reported Tuesday.

"It's just utter rubbish," says Terry McBride, president of Nettwerk Music Group, Lavigne's management company in Vancouver. He said the beat progressions in the two songs weren't the same.

Last week, the Rubinoos sued Lavigne in a California court, alleging the chorus of her "Girlfriend" sounds almost identical to its track "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend."

On her MySpace blog, Lavigne said she never heard of the song, adding, "I have been falsely accused."

The 22-year-old native of Napanee, Ontario, also was criticized by Winnipeg singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, who said she sent Lavigne a song called "Contagious" two years ago and then saw a song with the same title on "The Best Damn Thing."

On her Web site, Lavigne said the two songs were dissimilar. Kreviazuk later retracted her statement.
