Randy Newman sings 'Weeds' theme

LOS ANGELES, July 7 (UPI) -- The third season of the Emmy-nominated U.S. TV show "Weeds" will kick off Aug. 13 with Randy Newman singing the opening theme.

The opening theme, "Little Boxes" by Malvina Reynolds will be sung by a different person each episode of the Showtime series. The artists will include Joan Baez, Donavan, Billy Bob Thornton, the Shins, Michael Franti, The Individuals, Angelique Kidjo, Kinky and Man Man, and Persephone's Bees, Zap2it.com reported Friday.

In addition to those artists, at least four more will be brought in to round out the show's 15-episode season.

Showtime first introduced the idea of using guest singers for the theme song of "Weeds" during the second season when Elvis Costello, Englebert Humperdinck, Death Cab for Cutie and Regina Spektor were brought in.
