Jim Carrey to take on Ebenezer Scrooge

LOS ANGELES, July 6 (UPI) -- Jim Carrey will star in a high-tech movie version of Charles' Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol," The Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Carrey -- who starred in the 2000 blockbuster movie version of the Dr. Seuss fable, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" -- will play multiple roles in director Robert Zemeckis' take on the Dickens' tale for Walt Disney Pictures.

Carrey will play Ebenezer Scrooge at different ages, as well as the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

The movie will combine live action with performance-capture technology, which Zemeckis used in his 2004 adaptation of the children's book, "The Polar Express."

Production on "A Christmas Carol" is scheduled to start this year. No release date has been announced.
