NEW YORK, July 5 (UPI) -- New Line Cinema and HBO are planning to start shooting a big-screen version of the hit TV comedy "Sex and the City" this fall, Variety reported Thursday.

The New York-based show's leading ladies -- Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon -- are all on board and expected to reprise their iconic roles in the film.

Michael Patrick King, the show's executive producer, will direct the movie, which will be based on a screenplay he penned.

King, Parker, John Melfi and Darren Star are set to produce.

The ensemble show about longtime friends navigating the rough waters of work and romance in Manhattan wrapped its sixth season on HBO in 2004.

It has been running in syndication since, but fans have hoped the gals' stories would continue in a movie.

Plans to make a film were scrapped two years ago when Cattrall demanded script control and a salary close to that of Parker -- the only cast member who was also an executive producer on the show.

A source told Variety some concessions have been made and Cattrall is now happy with the deal.
