Singer's 'bomb' remark leads to delay

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 3 (UPI) -- A remark about plans to "bomb some planes" grounded Swedish pop singer Dilbahar "Dilba" Demirbag from a US Airways flight at a Stockholm airport.

When checking in Monday, Demirbag was approached by an airline representative and questioned about her journey, The Local reported Tuesday. The artist said she thought her Middle Eastern appearance lead her to being detained longer than other passengers.

"I replied that I had some planes to bomb on the way home. (The representative) didn't find that a bit amusing," she told Expressen.

Airport security guards were called and Demirbag was taken for questioning.

"I was pulled out of the queue and treated like a terrorist," Demirbag said, adding that she was considering reporting US Airways for discrimination.

"I felt insulted, that's why I made the joke. I want to apologize to anybody who took offense," she said.

US Airways rejected Demirbag's claim that she was permanently barred from flying with the airline.

"We treat these kinds of comments very seriously and we take the necessary precautions," an airline spokeswoman told Expressen. "With recent events in mind we ask all our passengers to be on their guard."
