LOS ANGELES, July 1 (UPI) -- Director Michael Apted was re-elected president of the Directors Guild of America at the group's national biennial convention in Los Angeles.

New officers and members of the guild's National Board of Directors also were elected at the convention by 129 delegates representing the 13,400 members of the DGA, according to a news release from the DGA.

Apted has an extensive history service to the build, being elected president in 2003 and re-elected in 2005. He also acted as the fifth vice president in 2002 before moving up to the top seat.

"I am honored to have been re-elected for a third term as president of the DGA," Apted said. "The next few years will be critical to our guild and to the industry. It is my goal as president to lead our Guild through upcoming negotiations and ensure that the creative and economic rights of directors and their teams are protected for years to come."

Also, Steven Soderbergh was re-elected national vice president for his third term.
