HOLLYWOOD, June 29 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures tapped Hollywood funnyman-actor Jim Carrey to star in "Sober Buddies," a comedy that Carrey also will produce.
Andrew Kurtzman is writing the script, which is about a hard-partying software executive who is assigned a court-appointed Sober Buddy, Carrey's character, to keep him reined in during a business trip to Los Angeles. The plan falls apart when the Sober Buddy falls off the wagon.
Kurtzman, who's writing "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" based on the Jay Ward-created cartoon characters, developed the "Sober Buddies" project as a pitch with Principal Entertainment's Danny Sherman, who will be executive producer, Variety reported Friday.
Carrey will produce the film with Stuber/Parent's Scott Stuber and Mary Parent and Michael Peyser.
