HOLLYWOOD, June 28 (UPI) -- Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling is set to star opposite Rachel Weisz in the Hollywood adaptation of Alice Sebold's best-seller "The Lovely Bones."
Director Peter Jackson is scheduled to begin filming in October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand for the DreamWorks film, Variety reported Thursday.
The story is about a murdered girl who watches her family and her killer from heaven. Gosling and Weisz will play the child's parents.
Gosling earned an Academy Award nomination for his leading role in "Half Nelson." Weisz earned an Academy Award for her supporting role in "The Constant Gardener."
Jackson, who developed the project before shopping it to studios, wrote the screenplay with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. The three also co-wrote and produced the award-winning "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "King Kong."
Jackson, Boyens, Walks and Caroline Cunningham are producers for "The Lovely Bones."
