NEW YORK, June 26 (UPI) -- Rapper Flavor Flav apparently won't take a $1.8 million judgment slapped on him in a 14-year-old New York shooting incident lying down.

An attorney for the performer this week planned to appeal state Judge Dianne Renwick's ruling, contending she shouldn't have handled the civil case because she's married to the prosecutor who tried to convict Flavor Flav -- real name William Drayton -- for allegedly shooting at a neighbor in his Bronx apartment building, the New York Post reported Monday.

"Her actions were retaliatory because her husband lost a series of cases to Flav," said Charles Johnson, an attorney who is godfather to two of the rapper's children.

Renwick had verbally recused herself in January to avoid the appearance of impropriety but then decided recently that she would take care of the matter after all.

Flavor Flav, the former Public Enemy member who now has a reality show on VH1, allegedly shot at Thelouizs English at Executive Towers in 1993.
