Victoria Beckham wins libel suit

LONDON, June 25 (UPI) -- Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has reportedly been awarded a large undisclosed sum after winning a defamation case against a magazine in London.

The case was over a Star Magazine story that claimed the actress' U.S. television crew didn't like her and also claimed that when her husband, David Beckham calls, she "shouts orders at him on the phone, like he's one of her kids," Sky News reported Monday.

Although the singer herself didn't appear at London's High Court for the case over the article in Star Magazine, her lawyer Gerrard Tyrrell told Justice David Eady that the allegations in the April story were "untrue and unfounded."

The article alleged that Beckham was "proving hugely unpopular in the U.S. -- and now even the crew from her TV show there have revealed they can't stand her!"

It went on to cite various alleged insiders as saying how rude and picky the former Spice Girl was.

Tyrrell said that the magazine's publisher, Northern and Shell Plc, didn't contact Beckham or her representative before publication and have now accepted that the allegations were false and should never have been published, the Sky News report said.
