CAMBERLEY, England, June 25 (UPI) -- Singer Shirley Bassey made an emergency helicopter landing in Camberley, Britain, after leaving the Glastonbury music festival.
While on her way to her hotel from the festival, conditions got so bad that Bassey's pilot realized it was unsafe to land at the hotel and instead opted for a nice wide field at Collingwood College, The Times of London reported Monday.
However, her ordeal was not quite over. She and her pilot discovered that they were trapped in the school grounds and were forced to contact the school's caretaker to unlock the gates, the newspaper said.
Bassey reportedly did not make it back to the hotel but eventually made arrangements to stay the night elsewhere.
The college's head teacher, Jerry Oddie, who was called by the caretaker shortly after the Welsh singer landed, related the story to the Times.
"The weather here was terrible last night and I suppose the pilot took one look at our school field, which is very big, and decided to put down there," Oddie said. "If we'd known, then we would have put on a better reception."
