Reporter Claudia Cohen dead at 57

NEW YORK, June 16 (UPI) -- Reporter Claudia Cohen,who wrote a celebrity gossip column in New York, has died of stomach cancer at age 57.

Cohen died Friday at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center with her daughter Samantha, ex-husband Ron Perelman and brother James at her bedside, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

"Claudia was a remarkable, dynamic woman, a terrific mother and also our best friend," Perelman said. "She will be missed by everyone who knew her."

Bob Collacello, a Vanity Fair writer and friend of Cohen, said that although she "came from a wealthy family, married a billionaire and knew the most famous people in the world, she was always a girl from the Jersey suburbs. She never put on airs."

Cohen started her career at the Daily News in 1980 and was most known for her celebrity column "I, Claudia."

She is survived by her daughter, ex-husband and brother.
