LOS ANGELES, June 13 (UPI) -- Actor Isaiah Washington says he is now sad, not angry, regarding his recent dismissal from the hit U.S. TV series "Grey's Anatomy."

While a statement from the actor directly after being fired from the ABC series said he was furious regarding the decision, the 43-year-old actor recently said he is simply saddened at show creator Shonda Rhimes' decision to drop him from the series' cast, People magazine reported Wednesday.

"I'm saddened by the outcome," Washington said. "I did everything that the producers and the network asked me to do. I came back under great duress and stress, and thought I was doing the job I was hired to do."

The actor, who drew media attention during Season 3 for uttering a homophobic slur, did seem to credit Rhimes for personally informing him he would not be in Season 4.

"... Rhimes called me on Thursday of last week and told me that I would not be returning to the show," Washington said. "Just like she personally called me and invited me to the show. It was full circle."
