NEW YORK, June 13 (UPI) -- CBS has decided to give potential fans of the apocalyptic TV series "Jericho" a chance to see the show by airing reruns of the drama this summer.

The TV network has announced that reruns of the resurrected series will air on Friday nights this summer in an attempt to draw in additional viewers for scheduled new episodes, Zap2it.com reported Tuesday.

The network's decision to bring "Jericho" back from cancellation was addressed last week by CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler, who called on fans to increase ratings when the show returns.

"We will count on you to rally around the show, to recruit new viewers with the same grass-roots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks," Tassler told fans.

The decision to order an additional seven new episodes of "Jericho" was made last week after CBS executives were beset by scores of requests that the drama about the aftermath of a nuclear attack in Kansas return to the air.

The Web site said the new "Jericho" episodes would likely air sometime next midseason.
