LOS ANGELES, June 8 (UPI) -- Isaiah Washington, who caused a furor at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, says he's "mad as hell" that he won't return to the ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy."
Washington received a call from ABC Television Studio executives Thursday telling him he was "not invited back to the show next season," publicist Howard Bragman told E! News.
Washington drew fire for uttering an anti-gay slur backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in January while denying he had ever called co-star T.R. Knight a "faggot" last October during an on-set argument with Patrick Dempsey.
Bragman released a statement from Washington regarding the decision.
"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore," Washington said, quoting the line made famous by Peter Finch in the movie "Network."
Afterward, Washington issued a public apology, met with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, attended counseling sessions and completed a public service announcement that aired recently.
