'Pirates' hangs on to No. 1

LOS ANGELES, June 3 (UPI) -- "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" held American moviegoers captive a second week, hauling in $43.19 million in weekend turnstile booty.

While the estimated revenues for the $300 million Johnny Depp swashbuckler dropped 62.4 percent from its opening-weekend total of $155 million, it was still well ahead of "Knocked Up," a comedy about the results of a one-night stand that debutted at No. 2 with $29.28 million in ticket sales.

"Shrek the Third" slipped a notch to third with $26.7 million, followed by another new film, "Mr. Brooks," a Kevin Costner murder-thriller that pulled in $10.02 million.

"Spider-Man 3" fell two spots to No. 5 with $7.5 million in sales in its fifth week.

"Waitress" fell from fifth to No. 6 with $2.03 million in estimated receipts.

Rounding out the Top 10 were "Gracie," a new release about a soccer-playing teenage girl that pulled in $1.36 million; "Bug," which fell from fourth with $1.22 million; "28 Weeks Later," down from sixth at $1.2 million; and "Disturbia," which slipped from seventh with $1.13 million.

The receipts were reported Sunday by Box Office Mojo.

Paris Hilton awaits stretch in jail

LOS ANGELES, June 3 (UPI) -- California rich girl Paris Hilton may have to start serving a 23-day jail sentence by Tuesday, but she doesn't seem to be letting it get to her.

The 26-year-old hotel industry heiress emerged from her Hollywood Hills home to a mob of photographers Saturday, wearing a bright yellow sunhat and a smile on her face, People magazine reported.

She reportedly was taken to a nearby coffee shop in a black stretch limo Escalade and then promptly returned home.

"She looked gorgeous and seemed in high spirits," said an onlooker. "She was smiling and playing coy with the paparazzi."

Hilton has until Tuesday to begin serving a minimum of 23 days at the Century Regional Detention Facility for violating probation.

Sheriff Lee Baca, whose department oversees the facility in Lynwood, Calif., where Hilton is to do her time, said the actress will not be allowed to "be seen in handcuffs -- or in the back of a police car, forlorn and in handcuffs."

"Jails are not circuses and not places where 'fun' is the priority," Baca said. "Jail should be a corrective learning experience."

Jennifer Aniston invests in Smartwater

LOS ANGELES, June 3 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Jennifer Aniston is the newest investor in Smartwater and will appear in the boutique distilled water company's next print ad campaign.

Glaceau, who makes the electrolyte-laden water, also announced Aniston co-created a limited edition Smartwater label that will be available in stores in July, CBS reported Sunday.

The ad campaign will be shot by fashion photographer Mario Testino, who has photographed stars such as Madonna and Naomi Campbell, and will be seen this summer.

"We were thrilled that Jennifer discovered Smartwater and realized what a difference it makes to her healthy lifestyle," said Rohan Oza, senior vice president of marketing for Glaceau. "To us, Jennifer truly embodies what Smartwater is all about, as she combines substance and style like nobody else."

'Hustler' seeks congressional sex secrets

WASHINGTON, June 3 (UPI) -- Had sex with a member of the U.S. Congress? Publisher Larry Flynt and his Hustler magazine are offering up to $1 million cash if you can prove it.

In a full page ad published Sunday in the Washington Post, Flynt asks for information from anyone who has had a "sexual encounter with a current member of the United States Congress or a high-ranking government official."

"Flynt and Hustler magazine will pay you up to $1 million if we choose to publish your verified story and use your material," said the ad, which supplies a "hotline" 800 number and e-mail address.

Using the Post's advertising rates, Hustler paid about $13,640 for Sunday's ad.
