TV's Jethro Bodine pursues casino deal

CARSON CITY, Nev., May 28 (UPI) -- Max Baer Jr., better known as Jethro Bodine from "The Beverly Hillbillies," has bought a 2.5-acre parcel of land in Nevada for a proposed casino and resort.

Baer bought the property in northern Douglas County with the proceeds from a recent sale of an old Wal-Mart building in Carson City, The Gardnerville (Nev.) Record-Courier reported. The actor said he won't seek the remaining 20.78 acres until he has the needed zoning change and height variances.

"I'm putting my money where my mouth is and buying the property," Baer said of his $1.2 million land deal. "This purchase demonstrates a commitment to Douglas County. It shows the people here that the process is moving forward."

The Beverly Hillbillies Casino & Mansion, part of a proposed 600,000-square-foot commercial complex, would include a 40,000-square-foot gaming area flanked by a number of restaurants. Plans for phase one include a 2,100-seat cinema complex, and a 240-room, five-story hotel. Two 12-story, 240-room hotel towers and convention space would be built later.

The casino is part of a larger development of entertainment and retail businesses, developers said.
