LA cops wrong about Ike Turner

LOS ANGELES, May 18 (UPI) -- Ike Turner's past came back to haunt him unjustly in Los Angeles this week when an 18-year-old felony drug warrant popped up on police computers.

The musician-record producer was pulled over for speeding Tuesday night and a 1989 narcotics warrant showed up when the officers ran a routine check on him, E! News reported Thursday.

Turner, 75, does have a drug history, including an 18-month prison term in the early '90s, but his name shouldn't have turned up in connection with illegal drugs now. According to Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman April Harding, the outdated warrant was never deleted from the system even though it was rescinded the same day it was issued because Turner showed up in court, E! News said.

About 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Turner was allegedly clocked doing 80 miles per hour while straddling lanes on an interstate highway, police said. When the warrant appeared on computer screens, he was taken to jail and booked. He was released about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
