WASHINGTON, May 14 (UPI) -- The Washington National Opera said it will present Puccini's "La Boheme" to 17 universities and high schools across the nation through a free, live simulcast.

The Sept. 23 simulcast of "La Boheme" will be available to viewers at the Washington Monument and two movie theaters in the Mid-Atlantic region, plus the high schools, colleges and universities nationwide, Placido Domingo, Washington National Opera general director, said in a release.

"We at Washington National Opera have had a longtime commitment to making opera accessible and meaningful to the broader D.C. community," Domingo said. "It is so exciting to announce our continuing efforts to make opera more accessible -- both locally and on a national scale."

Polish director Mariusz Trelinski's re-casts the classic opera in a modern-day setting. Rodolfo is a photographer, who with a group of other artists, searches for identity and a deeper connection to society.
