NEW YORK, May 11 (UPI) -- NBC News White House correspondent David Gregory could be the new "Don Imus" for NBC and CBS.
NBC is reportedly considering Gregory as a permanent replacement for Imus on MSNBC and is in discussions with New York-based WFAN -- Imus' one-time broadcasting home -- on a contract to simulcast the show, Variety reported Friday.
Both MSNBC and CBS Radio declined to comment.
If the deal goes through, it would be a virtual flip of the former arrangement in which MSNBC licensed "Imus in the Morning" from WFAN, which produced the morning talk show. Under the proposed deal, MSNBC would own the show and WFAN would be the licensee.
Gregory has been one of several fill-ins for Imus since CBS Radio fired him last month for racist remarks he made about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.
