Depp, long-time girlfriend to wed

PLAN DE LA TOUR, France, May 9 (UPI) -- Actor Johnny Depp and long-time girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, spurred by their daughter's recent illness, said they decided to marry in France, where they live.

The couple's 7-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose, was hospitalized in London in March for nine days, suffering from E. coli poisoning, The Daily Mail said Wednesday.

"They have talked about marriage on and off for a long time but the recent emotional roller-coaster they have had to endure seems to have spurred them into action," a source told the London newspaper.

The "Pirates Of The Caribbean" star and Paradis were at their daughter's bedside while in London, where Depp was filming "Sweeney Todd." He had refused to return to the set until the child was out of danger, which forced filming to shut down.

Depp and Paradis are expected to marry during the summer in a chapel within the 50-acre grounds of their home in the village of Plan de la Tour, about an hour from St. Tropez in the south of France.
