LOS ANGELES, May 8 (UPI) -- Kevin Costner will star in "Swing Vote", as a single father thrust into the public eye when the U.S. presidential election rides on his vote.

The indie film begins shooting in July 2007. Joshua Michael Stern will direct, Daily Variety reported.

"Swing Vote" is the first project for Costner and his partner Jim Wilson under their Treehouse Films banner. Variety said Treehouse plans to produce content for films, TV and the Internet.

Costner said Treehouse will allow him to "shepherd projects from the ground up."

"Swing Vote" will be timely. The U.S. 2008 presidential election campaign will be gaining momentum as shooting begins.
