Road kill song winner at MerleFest

NASHVILLE, May 4 (UPI) -- A song about "road kill" walked away with top honors at the bluegrass festival, MerleFest, in North Carolina.

Nashville songwriters Don King, Brant Miller and Dave Woodward won this year's Top Country Song with "The Road Kill Bill."

The song was born when the Tennessee Legislature enacted a law making it legal to "harvest" road-killed game animals without a hunting license, said a publicity release from AristoMedia. King, Miller and Woodward perform under the name 2nd Nature.

MerleFest, held annually during the last week of April, in Wilkesboro, N.C., is named in honor of the late son of guitarist Doc Watson. This year's festival drew more than 80,000 people and featured Elvis Costello, Alison Krauss and a variety of bluegrass and country acts.
