'Makes Me Wonder' climbs to top of Hot 100

NEW YORK, May 3 (UPI) -- Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder" leaped a record 63 spots to reach the Billboard Hot 100's top spot for single sales in the United States.

Last week's Hot 100 leader, "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne, dropped to No. 2.

Timbaland's "Give It to Me" featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake was bumped from No. 2 to No. 3, while T-Pain's "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" nudged up to No. 4 from No. 5.

Ne-Yo's "Because of You" also did a lot of climbing, moving up from No. 39 to No. 5.

The chart's leading debut was Carrie Underwood's "I'll Stand by You," which bowed in at No. 6, becoming the first iTunes exclusive to open in the top 10.

Fergie's "Glamorous" featuring Ludacris dropped from No. 4 to No. 7, followed by Kelly Clarkson's "Never Again" debut at No. 8.

Akon occupied the final slots. His "Don't Matter" slid from No. 3 to No. 9, while Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape," on which he was a guest artist, fell from No. 6 to No. 10.
