LOS ANGELES, May 3 (UPI) -- Isaiah Washington, whose offensive remark to a "Grey's Anatomy" co-actor angered the U.S. gay community, will be in a public service ad on behalf of gays.
Washington is planning to shoot the public service announcement -- content unrevealed -- within the next few weeks on behalf of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the organization told E! News.
Washington became embroiled in the controversy when he initially denied calling co-star T.R. Knight a "faggot" during a set-to on the set. The denial came in Los Angeles during a backstage interview after "Grey's Anatomy" won a Golden Globe for best television drama.
GLAAD called upon Washington to apologize to the gay community, fellow actors and ABC. Washington met with leaders from GLAAD and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network shortly after the Golden Globes to discuss his use of the word and what he could do to help discourage intolerance and prejudice against the gay community. He also issued an apology and attended anger management sessions.
