NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) -- Alec Baldwin wants to do right by his daughter, said U.S. television personality Dr. Phil McGraw, who spoke with the actor.

McGraw said Baldwin called him Thursday after hearing the therapist's offer to help on "Larry King Live." Among other things, the two discussed Baldwin's leaked angry voicemail to his daughter, Ireland, and his plans to address the five-year custody matter with his ex-wife, actress Kim Basinger.

Baldwin "without reservation ... recognized the inappropriate nature of his comments to his daughter, and using her as the misguided target for his frustrations," McGraw said in a news release.

During an interview on "Entertainment Tonight," McGraw revealed some of his conversation with New York resident Baldwin, saying the "30 Rock" star agreed that some of their discussion could be shared.

"(His) No. 1 priority is to create peace and tranquility in his daughter's life," McGraw said. "He told me he is completely and totally committed to continuing his fight to have access to a full and healthy ongoing relationship with his daughter."

Baldwin said that while he believes his work on "30 Rock" inhibits his parental focus, he would honor his contract with NBC, McGraw said.
