NEW YORK, April 26 (UPI) -- Alec Baldwin asked NBC to be let go from "30 Rock" so his recent personal dustups don't reflect negatively on the series, he said in an interview in New York.

In a taped interview with "The View," Baldwin also apologized for the angry voicemail he left for his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, E! News said Thursday.

"If I never acted again I couldn't care less," the 46-year-old performer said, according to a transcript released by ABC. What mattered was repairing his relationship with his daughter.

He said he would like to "devote myself to the cause of parental alienation," and said he's writing a book on the subject based on his experiences as a divorced dad facing custody issues.

Regarding his request to be released from "30 Rock," a network spokesman said in a statement, "Alec Baldwin remains an important part of '30 Rock.' We look forward to having him continue his role in the show."

Earlier this week Baldwin fired his longtime agents and split with Creative Artists Agency, which also represents his former spouse, Kim Basinger.
