LOS ANGELES, April 24 (UPI) -- Tom Morello, the California-based guitarist of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, said he wants to be "the black Woody Guthrie."
He's staking that claim with his first solo album, "One Man Revolution," which Morello recorded under the moniker of his acoustic guitar playing, protest-singing alter ego The Nightwatchman.
Its 13 tracks deal with a variety of social and political issues, urging listeners to "seize the time and storm the tower!"
"Since I was young I've been encouraging people to find their voice and speak the truth as they see it in an uncompromising way, regardless of consequence," Morello said. "I decided to finally take that advice myself in making (the album)."
Morello said he plans to tour as The Nightwatchman. He's also playing a series of reunion dates with Rage Against the Machine, starting with this weekend's Coachella festival in Indio, Calif.
