MELBOURNE, April 21 (UPI) -- Australian actor Eric Bana escaped injury Saturday when he cracked up his pride-and-joy classic Ford on Day 3 of the five-day Targa Tasmania road rally.
The star of "Chopper," "Munich" and "Troy" wrecked his 1974 Ford XB Coupe, the same model driven by Mel Gibson in his "Mad Max" films. Although Bana was unhurt, he and navigator Tony Ramunno, also of Melbourne, are out of the rally.
Event director Mark Perry told the Melbourne Herald-Sun it looked like Bana had "overcooked it coming into a pretty sharp turn and left the road and smacked into a bank."
Bana and Ramunno were 53rd in a starting field of 276 at the time of the crash.
