MUMBAI, April 20 (UPI) -- Bollywood was witnessing its biggest marriage fete in years when actress Aishwarya Rai wed Abhishek Bachchan Friday.

The evening ceremony was conducted at Bachchan's residence in Mumbai, the BBC reported Friday. The bride is a former Miss World and the groom is the son of super film couple Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.

To help ensure privacy, a temporary wooden structure was erected around the house and up to 400 security guards were hired.

The wedding party has been going on since Wednesday. The wedding ceremony will be in accordance with Hindu rites and traditions.

The couple will not go on a honeymoon immediately, it was reported. Bachchan said he wants to remain close to his grandmother, who is unwell and hospitalized.
