SILVER SPRINGS, Md., April 18 (UPI) -- Fox TV Studios chief Angela Shapir-Mathes was named the new president and general manager of Maryland-based TLC network.
Shapiro-Mathes replaces David Abraham, who left earlier this year when David Zaslav, the new chief executive of Discovery Communications, the parent company of TLC, was initiating structural changes, Variety said Wednesday.
Shapiro-Mathes, who starts July 1 and reports to Zaslav, will lead development, programming, production, new media, marketing, research and communications.
Shapiro-Mathes will be based in Los Angeles, and will at first split her time between the West Coast and TLC's Silver Spring, Md., headquarters.
The announcement was timed for the upfront presentation to advertisers by Discovery Communications Tuesday in Beverly Hills.
