Ferrell dabbles in online fare

HOLLYWOOD, April 17 (UPI) -- Hollywood funnyman Will Ferrell is showing he's not afraid to take on the Internet as a venue for his talent.

Ferrell posted a two-minute video called "The Landlord" on the Internet last week and scored nearly 1.6 million hits, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. The piece is viewable on FunnyOrDie.com.

In the video, Ferrell plays a lazy, good-for-nothing who is laid into by his landlady, Pearl, who is played by a 2-year-old.

"I want my money!" she yells at Ferrell's character, the Times said, then lets loose with string of subtitled obscenities.

Writer-director Adam McKay, Ferrell's friend and collaborator, admits to being behind the piece. He says there was no corporate backing. "It's just us," McKay said. "That's the fun -- this isn't brought to you by GE or Viacom or whoever."

The video took less than an hour to make, McKay said. "Will and I were just screwing around and it was like, hey, that's a good idea, let's film that," he said.

McKay plays Ferrell's friend in the flick and also is the father of Pearl, which just happens to be her real name.
