INDIANAPOLIS, April 11 (UPI) -- The son of Indianapolis native son Kurt Vonnegut Jr. will speak at an Indy event while the "Slaughterhouse-Five" author recovers from a fall.

The injury left the writer unable to travel to a planned April 27 lecture at Clowes Memorial Hall on Butler University's campus, part of "The Year of Vonnegut" celebration, the Indianapolis Star reported Wednesday.

His son Mark will deliver his father's speech at the event. Additionally, there will be a recorded reading by Vonnegut of an excerpt from "Slaughterhouse-Five" his classic about the firebombing of Dresden, Germany, during World War II.

The community-wide celebration honors Vonnegut's life, literature and heritage.
