DALLAS, April 10 (UPI) -- Singer Sheryl Crow wants her fans to do more than have some fun -- she's asking audiences during her U.S. tour to join the fight against global warming.
"Mother Earth is a living organism and when she gets sick we get sick," Crow told a crowd at Southern Methodist University in Dallas during her kick-off performance Monday.
The concert was part of Crow's Stop Global Warming College Tour, a two-week, 11-stop event developed to mobilize students to help end global warming. SMU was the first college on the list, the Dallas Morning News said Tuesday.
Laurie David, an environmental activist working with Crow on the campaign, said the idea for a tour was the result of "two girls bonding over global warming."
"My answer to everything is get on a tour bus and take it to the people," Crow commented.
The last stop for the biodiesel-fueled tour bus is Washington for a performance at George Washington University on April 22, Earth Day. The next day, Crow and David said they hope to deliver 1 million signatures to Capitol Hill to push leaders to freeze and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
