SAN FRANCISCO, April 9 (UPI) -- Thanks, but no thanks, actor Danny Glover said to those who hoped the "Lethal Weapon" franchise star might run for San Francisco mayor.
So far, few challengers have emerged to take on incumbent Gavin Newsom. An official-looking "Danny Glover For Mayor" Web site -- complete with a platform and position papers -- was launched by some bloggers interested in ramping up the campaign buzz about Glover, the San Francisco Chronicle said Monday.
Glover said in a statement that, while flattered and humbled by the support for his candidacy, "I have not considered, nor am I entertaining, the idea of running for mayor."
Glover said he'd rather "continue with my work as a cultural worker and a citizen of the great city of San Francisco and throughout the world."
The actor has been politically active for years. He supported Green Party candidate Matt Gonzalez's bid four years ago when Newsom was elected.
