J-Lo, 'Idol' popularity both down

LOS ANGELES, April 6 (UPI) -- Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez and Fox TV's "American Idol" apparently are counting on a little synergy to boost each other's fortunes.

Sales of Lopez' new album, "Como Ama Una Mujer (How a Woman Loves)," haven't exactly been sizzling -- coming in at 49,452 in its first week -- and recent ratings for "Idol" are down 7 percent. So Lopez' appearance on the Hollywood-based program next week could be a shot in the arm for both, The (London) Independent said Friday.

The record's slow start has prompted sniggering headlines such as "J-Low" and "La Bomba." Her first all-Spanish album offering also follows rather disappointing numbers for her last album, "Get Right."

In addition, two movies the 38-year-old performer has completed have yet to be released in theaters, not to mention her 2003 film "Gigli" caused critics to gag.
