BURBANK, Calif., April 4 (UPI) -- Funnyman Adam Sandler will headline the Disney family comedy "Bedtime Stories," set to begin production later this year, the Burbank, Calif., studio said.

Disney said the film is scheduled for a 2008 holiday release, noting that "Bedtime Stories" is Sandler's first feature project for the Walt Disney Pictures banner, Variety said Wednesday.

Sandler previously worked for Disney on the 1998 Touchstone comedy "The Waterboy."

In "Bedtime Stories," Sandler will portray a real estate developer whose life is turned upside down when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start coming true.

Adam Shankman -- who directed "Bringing Down the House" and the upcoming "Hairspray" -- will direct.
